How long had she been there now? Almost a full school year. And she still didn't believe in magic? Not so much. She played along and she was beginning to think maybe magic was real, but... then again - she still couldn't wrap her mind around. Ace sighed as she curled up in the chair by the fire in the Gryffindor common room. It was late, but that was the only time Ace would read anything about magic - when no one else was around.
In case... you know... she tried something and messed up or... couldn't do it at all. She wasn't saying she believed magic was real, but... these past few months had lead to few other conclusions. Especially after her most recent 'episode'. Another reason she was up late. She refused to sleep. A week ago she awoke to flames. Her bed was on fire. The other girls in the room had awoken and one said 'aguamenti' which doused Ace and her bed with cold water. "Thanks," was all she could muster and with how freezing she was it was fairly bitter.
She assumed she did it herself since it was much like the time she set the kitchen table on fire and she hadn't been harmed at all. Meanwhile her bed... Ace sighed remembering the incident. If that was her it was magic that she performed. Dangerous and frightening magic. If magic was real - why did magic like that have to exist? Ace stood and produced her wand - her Head of House had taken her to get it when she arrived without a wand to class and needed one. Twelve inches of finely carved Ash with a dragon heartstring inside.
She flicked her wrist like the book said to and muttered 'wingardium leviosa'. Nothing. She tried again. Still nothing. She huffed and tried once more, another mumble of 'wingardium leviosa'. Nothing, nothing, nothing. Ace growled and threw down her wand. "Stupid! Magic just doesnt exist and if it does I certainly can't do it!" She yelled, kicking the wand across the room and plopping down on the floor, leaning her head back against the window seat and it's cushion.
((eh... well I have my muse back for Ace, but that post was still crap.))

Donovan rolled over in his bed as his stomach growled loudly. That’s what he got for not eating dinner. He sat up in bed as he remembered a box of cookies that he left under a chair in the common. Donovan yawned as he slowly and quietly pulled back the curtains on his four-post bed. Getting out of bed, he put on his navy blue dressing gown and conjured himself a glass of milk. He was almost salivating at the idea of enjoying white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies with a cool glass of milk by the fire. He’d skipped dinner to study for one of his exams. Eating while studying was too distracting, but he should’ve taken at least a five minute break to eat those cookies.
As he made his way down from the boys dormitories he could hear a voice below. Getting closer, he realized that it was a frustrated voice and that of a girl. When he finally got into the common room he saw none other than Aceline. Was she actually trying to do magic? He tried to suppress the urge to laugh. Finally, she was giving in to reality. He was walking behind her toward his cookies when she threw her wand down. Donovan pulled his wand out of his dress robes and pointed it at the cookies under the arm chair that he’d been sitting at earlier. “Accio cookies!!” After the box of cookies flew into his arms me moved to sit in a chair near her.
“It won’t work if you don’t believe that it’ll work. Magic takes a lot of concentration. The concentration isn’t there if you don’t believe.” He took out a cookie and dipped it into the milk, moaning as he chewed and swallowed. “Besides,” he said. “It’s wingardium leviOHsa not leviosaaaah. And you have to swish and flick, not flick and swish. You can’t just wave around your wand and expect results.” Donovan bit into another cookie. He was sounding like a teacher and he didn’t like it. “I’m not trying to be rude or whatever. I’m just offering some advice as I eat.” He got a bit more comfortable in the seat and took a sip of his milk. “Why are you doing this so late at night anyway?”
OoC: Sorry it took me forever. It took me a while to get into a groove. =]

Her worst nightmare come true.
"Accio cookies!!"
Donovan's voice broke through her thoughts and she could feel her cheeks immediately turn bright red. As he berated her about how she was saying the spell and flicking her wand, about how she needed to really believe it and concentrate, she rolled her eyes and puffed out an exasperated breath. "Know it all." She muttered under her breath.
"I'm practicing so late because i was trying to not be bothered, but you had to screw that up - didn't you?" She didn't mean to sound rude either, but she had. She was just so frustrated with how much she sucked at magic. She stood and marched over to her wand and picked it up. "I am terrible at magic! My parents we right, I have no magical skill. They never should have sent me here!"
She poised herself like she was going to break her wand. She put pressure on it, but in the end she just cried out in frustration softly and dropped her hands, wand still in tact. "Wingardium Leviosa." She mumbled, concentrating, and stressing oh no saaa, but it was still a mumble. She put the right stresses though... where they could be heard. Nothing. She was ready to cry. "I want to go home..." She curled back up on the window seat, pushing the books off it as she did.
((sorry that sucked so bad. I went out and then when I came back I was writing it, my comp messed up and I lost it and rawrrr ;-;.))

Donovan didn’t expect Aceline to be even the slightest bit accepting of his advice or presence for that matter. I wasn’t that he thought her to be mean or anything. It was just that the last time they’d met she hadn’t been too open to magic or him trying to prove to her that it existed. He would still try to help her though. Not believing in what was now her entire world would be a terrible thing. He was amazed at the fact that she was trying. At least his attempts wouldn’t require too much now.
“I have no intentions of disturbing you, Miss Vartouhi, I just want to eat my cookies and drink my milk.” He dipped another cookie in the milk and bit into it, savoring the white chocolate flavor. “And you’ve got to have some kind of magical skill or else you would’ve never gotten a letter from Hogwarts in the first place…delayed or not.” Donovan quickly remembered the morning that he had gotten his. His parents had expected no less of him of course. He was their pride and joy.
When she gave up frustrated, Donovan moved to sit next to her on the window seat, making sure to bring his cookies and milk. “Don’t give up. It’s really not that hard. You’re just frustrated is all. First of all, what are you aiming at? You have to start off with something light. When I did, my professor started me off on a feather. Secondly, you have to speak clearly. Watch.” He conjured a black feather that appeared on top of the box of cookies. He pointed his maplewood wand at the feather and said “Wingardium Leviosa!” while swishing and flicking his wrist. The feather floated up into mid air for a few moments so that he could demonstrate and then he let it float back down. “See? Now you try, nice and clear.” Silently, he hoped that she would try, while he leaned back and ate another bite of his cookie.
OoC: Sorry it was so late. Lost my muse for a few days.

Ace sighed. "Whatever you say Donovan." She replied as he stated her had no intentions of disturbing her. "You certainly have unbelievable timing though." She eyed him a moment, watching him eat his cookie with mild envy. He was so used to this magic stuff. His parents had never kept him in the dark.
He suddenly conjured a feather and decided to show her how it was done. Explaining that she had to speak clearly and that her frustration was probably part of the problem. "No, you think?" She asked sarcastically, but she grew quiet as he performed his magic and she watched the feather float up. She couldn't help but run her hand over and under it, as if looking for strings. She still had trouble believing in this after almost a year. But she had had a lifetime without it. It was understandable that she would.
As the feather came back down to rest she sighed again, only more pronounced. She really didn't believe she could do it. She would try again though. Taking a deep breath she raised her wand and pointed it at the feather. "Wingardium Leviosa!" She said clearly. The feather shook, but didn't raise off the box. She could feel herself get angry again. "God damn it! Just float already you stupid f**king feather!" She yelled. At her anger the feather burst into flames.
"sh*t!" She cursed, immediately hitting the flames with her hand to put them out. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" She said over and over again until the flames died. "Jesus... I'm so sorry, Donovan. Uh... are your... cookie alright?" She said, trying not to let herself get choked up. She could feel tears trying to gather in her eyes, but she wouldn't let them. She dusted the ashes off the cookie box and bit her lip. She really had to watch her temper.
((meh.))

Under normal circumstances, such sarcasm would be met with hostility. But Donovan knew she couldn’t help it. Aceline had basically been dropped into a new world and forced to changer herself, because if she didn’t, she wouldn’t survive. Besides, Donovan was always polite, even when he didn’t want to be. That was how he was raised and that’s what was expected of him. If he acted any other way it’d be unbecoming of a Graham, unbecoming of a prefect. Whatever. He’d tolerate the rudeness…for now.
He grinned at her disbelief when she examined the space above and below the feather. It was kind of cool for him to do something that made her question reality. Donovan leaned back in his chair as she tried it. He got excited when the feather fluttered but that feeling quickly vanished when it sat there on the box of cookies. Suddenly it burst into flames and he became a bit taken aback. His lips curled up in a smile again when she cursed. It was cute. He couldn’t do that. He was supposed to be perfect at all times and he never knew who was listening…though he wanted to let it out so many times.
“No, it’s okay. Don’t worry about it. You’ll eventually learn to control all of that. As far as the wand magic goes, it just takes practice. Don’t give up.” He wasn’t sure what exactly was wrong. He’d been able to get it on his first try, but that was usually the case with everything he did…not to be cocky or anything, but it was true. Donovan peeked at his cookies become taking one out and closing the lid. “No harm done. You actually warmed them up for me.”
He devoured the cookie in seconds and drank some more milk that he magicked to refill itself when the glass became empty. “I’m gonna ask you something and I want you to be honest. Do you really want to learn this stuff? Are you accepting it? Or are you just feeling pressured?” Maybe the answer to these questions would help her more.
OoC: Omg...It's been like 2 and a half months!! sorry.
