Nemo walked up to the front gates, carrying his suitcase at his side. He didn't own many possessions, just his school supplies and a few extra cloths. He had insisted on being allowed out the afternoon he received his letter, and had gone shopping to get everything he needed. It had taken him a while to find the entrance to Diagon Alley, but once he had got in there were loads of people willing to help him. The whole thing had felt strange, and he wished he could remember before his coma, so he could tell if that had been normal.
He slowly pushed open the door, and walked inside. He still wasn't getting any weird feelings, like if he had been there before, which made him wonder if this place would actually help his memory return. The whole time he had been in London, he had had a strange feeling that he had been their before, except for Diagon alley. He hadn't had that feeling on the train either, and still wasn't getting it now he was there, which probably meant that he hadn't been there before.
There were a few people in the hall, but he didn't feel up to starting a conversation with anyone just yet, he still needed a bit more practice first. He put his feeble suitcase down and sat on it, hoping that someone would come over and help him soon, and that his experience in Diagon alley had not been a one off.

Kate was passing through the entrance hall when someone new caught her eye. A new person perhaps? Well they had a suitcase... and were looking lost...definetly fresh meat she decided. She walked over and said
'Hey I'm Kate. You looks...erm lost?...Can I help?' She said with a smile.

Nemo looked up at the girl as she introduced herself. Don't panic. He though, Just say hello, introduce yourself, then ask for help finding the common room. He smiled at her, and replied "Hi, I'm Nemo." It was a start, at least he hadn't stuttered or anything. "I just got here, I don't suppose you know where the, er... Gryffindor common room is, do you?" He asked her, pausing to look down at the badge on his uniform having forgotten the name of his house again.
Maybe everyone in the wizarding world was this friendly, and his doubt spurned from living all his life before the accident in the non magical world. He still didn't know how this place would help him regain his memories, but he was sure that someone would let him know about that when he had settled in a bit more, probably one of the teachers.

'Seventh floor, in the tower as far as I know. I don't know what the password is though, I'm a Hufflepuff,' she explained looking down at her own badge. 'You're probably best off talking to either the teacher that is head of the gryffindor house. But yeah, head of house or one of the older years who's like a prefect or whatever, someone who knows stuff, rather then me who knows not alot... and appears to still be talking!' she said with a laugh.
It's a good job that since she'd got to Hogwarts that Kate had learned to laugh at herself, and the way her mouth carried on talking after it should have stopped.
'If you want me to take you in the right direction of the tower and hopefully someone who might know the password, you are very welcome...?'

This was going to be hard work. Kate seemed to go on a bit, although she did laugh at herself for doing so, but Nemo preferred to stay quiet, at least a little bit. "That would be great." he replied, when she offered to help him find the tower. "I'm sure I'll find someone who knows the password, even if I end up sitting outside the common room for hours." He smiled, anything had to be better than sitting in the entrance hall for hours, at least if he was near the common room he had a better chance of finding someone who could help him the rest of the way.

'I'm sure you won't be. There are people going in and out all the time, no-one will leave you stranded. Want help with your bag...?' Kate trailed off. He only had the one. '...maybe not then,' Kate changed the subject quickly. 'You ready? It's a bit of a trek.'
She started walking towards the nearest marble staircase that lead to the seventh floor. 'It's this way.' She wasn't always sure that she'd got the right staircase, after all, they liked to move. A couple of steps up she turned back to make sure that Nemo was keeping up ok.

Nemo smiled, he was glad that people would be happy to help him, although Kate seemed to be a little over eager. He glanced down at his case, a disappointed look on his face. "I think I'll be alright, thanks." He said, determined to gather some more possessions during the year. He stood up, picked up his bag, and nodded in reply to her next question.
He followed her up the staircase, and heard a noise coming from above the half way up. He looked up, so see some of the staircases switching places. This could cause a problem. He thought, a shocked expression on his face. He wasn't sure what he was like with finding his way around places yet, although he hadn't been too bad in Diagon Alley, but moving staircases were bound to cause him problems.

'Be careful of the staircases, they like to move.' Kate said as she turned back to see Nemo look more then a little surprised. 'Hold on and you'll be fine. It doesn't last very long'
She had hated the fact that you could be on your way to one place and then suddenly you'd be somewhere completely different. But that was when she had first joined the school. Now instead of being scared she more of looked forward to where she might end up, even if it did mean being late for class sometimes. But when you first joined and you weren't expecting it it could be a bit scary.
The stairs swung round and finally came to a stop. Kate looked up to see a door. 'Ah.'

Nemo wrapped his arms around the banister after hearing Kate's words, although he still wasn't entirely convinced that he wasn't going to fall off. He was truly relieved when the stairs stopped moving, and was pleased to see a door at the top of the stairs they were on. Even if it wasn't the right place, he would be glad to get off of those things. He had found the first thing he disliked about that place, and decided to take an alternate route in future, no matter how much longer it was. If there was an alternate route, that was.
"Ah." He looked over at Kate, hoping they were at the right door, "Is this it?" He asked, truly eager to get off the stairs. The door didn't look too inviting, but it was just a door. The giant double doors at the entrance to the castle hadn't seemed that inviting either, so it was probably just something about the school, some means of keeping outsiders out that he would have to get used to during his time.

'Is this it?' Nemo had asked her. Kate saw the one door that was possibly the worst one to see. The door leading to the one place that they weren't allowed to be.
'Not quite' said Kate apprehensively, but trying not to let Nemo know that they shouldn't really been here. Kate had never been here before, she knew she shouldn't be here, yet she was drawn to the door. If the stairs had brought them here, maybe they were supposed to be here, for a reason.
But this was Nemo's first day, she couldn't really get him into to trouble on his first day. Could she? No she couldn't it would be wrong.
When the stairs had been moving she had seen Nemo clinging to the banister for dear life. 'You alright?' she asked him finally after coming out of her own little world.

Nemo looked up at the door, it really didn't look too inviting, and he didn't want to get in trouble on his first day. Then again, he really wanted to get off of the stairs as well. Before he had a chance to make up his mind, the stairs had started moving again, and he held on to the the banister so tight he could feel it crushing into his body, but he daren't let go. He was also turning slightly green in the face, now feeling like he was about to throw up so violently, all he dared do was shake his head slightly in response to Kate's question.
When the stairs stopped, he rushed to the top, and straight through the door, no longer caring whether or not they were allowed to be there. Luckily for him, several large arm chairs were positioned around a fire, and he ran over to one and sat down, his whole body shaking from the experience. He was too busy trying to calm down, and not vomit, that he failed to notice he had rudely left his guide on the stairs, and that his trunk was also on the staircase, where he had dropped it when it started moving.

The stairs were obviously feeling a little fickle today, as soon as they had stopped moving, they had started again. Poor kid, she thought, nothing like being thrown in at the deep end! After shaking his head after the first 'you alright' Kate daren't ask again. Just in case he was sick, passed out etc.
The next door that the stairs stopped at was a far better choice, Nemo hurtled himself through the door and straight into an armchair. 'Need a sit-down huh?'. He looked rather pale and shaken from the experience. He'd left his stuff. Kate picked up the trunk and followed him in. His tiny case was light, it obviously wasn't full. She put it next to him and looked down at him, 'You can stay here for a bit, guessing you're not going to want to use the stairs for a while!' she said with a slight laugh. 'Seriously are you ok?'

Nemo sat stiffly on the chair, taking deep breaths to try and settle his stomach, and keeping his mouth firmly shut. He definitely wasn't taking the stairs for a while, he just hoped there was another way to the common room. He was starting to feel better when Kate caught up with him. "Thanks," He said, as she put his suitcase down next to him, "I think I'll be alright now, just as long as I don't have to go back on those stairs."
He sat in an awkward silence for a few seconds, then said "Umm, please tell me there's a way up to the seventh floor which doesn't involve that staircase." He really didn't want to use them again unless he absolutely had to, and at that point would have found jumping out of a window to get down to the right floor for his lessons preferable to taking the stairs.

"Umm, please tell me there's a way up to the seventh floor which doesn't involve that staircase." Most rooms did involve a flight of stairs, not all of them moved thankfully. Nemo was sat so stiffly, and looked so little and unsure of himself.
'Well, that is the easiest, but not the only, there is the stairs of flames...' Kate couldn't finish her sentence with a straight face. 'Sorry, had to be done. There are other ways, but once your used to the stairs and know your way around, it's not that bad.' She knew this wouldn't be the news that Nemo wanted to hear. 'Don't worry, you will be fine, and then you'll wonder what you were worrying about. Promise,' she said as sincerely and reassuringly as she could manage.
ooc : that was the worst post in the history of posts!

(Sorry it took so long, and your post wasn't that bad, I've seen a lot worse.)
"Well, that is the easiest, but not the only, there is the stairs of flames..." Nemo looked up at Kate, all colour drained from his face, and a look of sheer horror rapidly appearing. He didn't look at all reassured when she said it had been a joke, and decided he definitely didn't like the castle. "Please... don't do that." He said weakly, his voice barely recovered from the last experience. He took a couple of deep breaths, then stood up. He picked up his suitcase, then said, "Let's get this over and done with, then." a small amount of courage surfacing. If he had to go up the stairs to get to the common room, then so be it. Once it was done, he would be able to start trying to find ways to avoid the stairs for future reference.
