Colin walked through the huge doorway, and into the entrance hall. He was wearing jeans and a denim jacket. Under his jacket he wore a black t-shirt, the wording 'Metallica' partially visible. He also had a massive rucksack on his back, the sort hikers and travelers usually carry. It was his first day, and he had no idea where he was.
It had been the morning of his GCSE results. He awoke early, and was half way through eating his breakfast when he heard some post arrive. Bit early for post, isn't it? he had thought to himself, before going to see what it was. There was one letter on the doormat, the writing on the front was emerald green, and the letter had a wax seal, with a strange coat of arms. He opened it, and read through the letter, informing him of hogwarts, telling him that he had a place, and saying not to worry about having missed 5 years of magical tuition. The was one other thing on the letter, written in large letters was 'DO NOT TELL ANYONE OTHER THAN YOUR PARENTS ABOUT THIS'. This came as a shock to him, up until then he had been thinking that the whole thing was some sort of prank, but that was too serious.
And sure enough, here he was, at hogwarts. He stood in the entrance hall and looked around. There were a few people wandering around, some of them where in normal clothing, others were wearing their hogwarts robes. He probably should have just stood there looking lost until someone came over to try and help him, but that wasn't like him at all, even if this was somewhere new. He walked up to a girl, smiled at her, and said, holding out his hand, "Hi, I'm Colin, I've just got here, and i was wondering if you could help me." It was a polite tone, although probably a bit on the slow side. He was trying too hard not to just blurt it out, which often happened when he was unsure of what was going on.

It was early in the day and Amelia was headed out of the great hall. There were a few people here and there as she walked absent-mindedly pas the entrance hall only to be stopped by a boy she had not met before.
"Hi, I'm Colin, I've just got here, and I was wondering if you could help me."
It took a few seconds that he was speaking to her, she blushed a bit as he extended his hand, but she took a breath knowing this was her chance to finally be of some sort of help, and try not to be so shy. She took his hand in a soft handshake, she was quite gentle, not the normal handshake. She was clearly not one who defined themselves with a simply handshake. She remembered reading something about muggles and how they think they can know all about a person by a handshake, even having books on the proper handshake. With this in mind as she shook Colin’s hand she had a smile, sweet and friendly.
“I am Amelia.” She said with as much power as she could but it still came out quite soft. She was nervous around people, and extra around this particular boy. He made her smile; it was odd really. Then Amelia was not sure what she could do to help, so she figured a safe question would be: “What house are you in? I am in Ravenclaw.” She added to her first statement. She was wearing a light purple dress today, knee length, thin shoulder straps, and the back exposed for her wings to sit freely on her back. They were folded up and looked so delicate that they could be a design on her dress, unless someone looked close enough. Her purple eyes almost shimmered as she spoke, she looked nervous even though she was trying desperately not to.
He looked older, not really knowing what year he was in she still had to wonder where he was from, but that and more. She however was one to offer more then needed information at times, and knew this so she remained quite and her questions unasked for the time being.

The girl blushed, then smiled at him and shook his hand. It was a gentle handshake, not that he knew anything about them. He just knew people had different ones. It actually made a change for someone to not be trying to crush his hand at the same time. Then she introduced herself, and asked what house he was in.
"I'm in Ravenclaw too." He replied, and thought, Finally, that's the first time my tactic's worked first time. She looked nervous, he wasn't sure why, maybe she was shy. He tried to make conversation by asking "What year are you?" He didn't usually have trouble talking to people, once he got to know them. It was just getting to know them in the first place that was the trouble. He never knew what to ask. It would have been so much easier to say 'tell me everything about yourself', but some people might not respond well to that, plus it would be a lot of information to take in without breaks.
He grabbed the handles of his rucksack, and adjusted it's position on his back, then asked, "Where's the common room?" It wasn't heavy, he just wanted to get rid of it. He felt awkward stood in the entrance hall with the bag on his back.

Christy ran in to the Entrance Hall. She knew her sister would be there. She Quckly scanned the room. She sensed her but didn't see her. A moment later, she seen her talking to a boy. She stopped in her tracks. Her shy sister was talking to a boy. She walked up to her slowly. She tapped her sister and said "Sis i need some advice when your done". She waited quietly to talk to her. She never listened to her moms advice but she sure did listen to her sisters. She was going some where with Raven and she didn't know what to wear, because she doesnt know wher they were going.

She heard him say Ravenclaw and smiled, that was something she could help with since she knew the house well; all her sisters within and her youngest brother, she knew it well. He asked was year she was in but before she could answer Christy, her elder sister came by and made Amelia jump a little, startled as she was not expecting her sister to be there all of the sudden.
“Oh! Christy, you gave me a fright!” She said, it was a refreshing contrast to the delicate voice that spoke before. She then realized what she had asked and said, “Sure.” She answered Christy, whom she would always help out at any time. She knew that even though she had just met Colin it would be rather rude not to introduce them, so she did the best she could. “Christy this is Colin, he is a new Ravenclaw student.” She said softly, Christy was going to laugh at her latter for this she just knew it. “And this is Christy my sister.” She finished as she looked at Colin.
He had asked her what year she was in and she still had yet to answer, she felt strange as Christy was now there too, she was at a lost of what to do, at home she was a fireball of energy but with other people she was so shy. “I am in my fifth year…how about you?” she had felt strange asking the question but it was quite a normal question.
“Oh, and the common room it in the Ravenclaw tower, I could show you the way.” Wow, did I just say that? Amelia thought as the words flowed so easily she had not even known she had said it. Christy was most likely holding back a burst of pure laughter as Amelia blushed a little brighter pink then she already was. She was surprised as she felt so stiff that she would do the wrong thing, and make him think she was some strange person. Then again we are all strange at some point in out lives.

"Thanks Sis" she said with a huge smile on her face. "Hey Colin i am in Ravenclaw also a 6th year. Also soon to be Faerie Queen" she said she knew her shy sister and she was gloting about her going to be Faerie Queen. She was trying not to laugh it was really hard for her not to because it was funny. "Sis when your done meet me in the tower please and thank you" she said before she flew off. She raced to the commen room to laugh about it.

Colin watched as a second girl arrived, and the two had a quick conversation, before Amelia introduced her to him. "It's a pleasure to meet you Christy." He said, then answered Amelia "I'm in the sixth year." Then Christy said she was a 6th year, and he smiled. Two sisters, a year apart, and in the same house as him. He had definitely picked the right people to make friends with on his first day.
Christy was boasting about something, it sounded to him like she said she was going to be the Faerie queen, but his experience of Faeries were tiny little creatures that little kids believed in, it was probably something he missed growing up outside the wizarding world. Then Amelia offered to show him the way to Ravenclaw tower, and started blushing. He wasn't sure why, he had never been able to understand girls at his old school either. Christy said something about her sister meeting her in the tower, and then flew off, which stunned him slightly. They must be Faeries then, He thought, and then caught a glimpse of Amelia's wings, he had thought they were part of the dress at first, but now knew better.
"That would be great." he replied, still smiling. He guessed that the tower would be upstairs, from what he had seen of the structure from out side, and the direction of Christy's departure. He shifted his bag again, then got ready to follow Amelia's lead.

After Christy flew off Amelia now had to actually show Colin where the tower was. She figured the best way was the direct way, only since there are a lot of places to get lost around the castle. She was a little bit better, calm and collected as she could be. “Well... the best way from here is the first stairwell on the left, but they have a tendency to change, so you may want to pay attention to them…” she said before she started walking toward the stairwell section of the castle.
Once at the top of the first stairwell she headed to the left and pulled open a rather large door that revealed what she had meant about the stairwell’s changing. You could see every now and then a section of the stairs pull off and move. You could never be certain where they were going so it was best to be quick about it if you were on a moving one.
“So, this is your first time to Hogwarts?” Amelia said as she waited for him to take in the view, she was curious as much as she was shy and it was not an easy combination to live with. She wondered what it must be like to come to Hogwarts for the first time, it was so refreshing her first year but that was so long ago and she had Christy to show her some things about the place, but Amelia had her own little secrets as well even if it was hard to keep them from her youngest sister, who could read minds. Amelia was a little jealous at times, her gift of a seer was not always so wonderful…

Colin followed Amelia to the stairwell, and looked through the open door in amazement. The staircases were actually moving, by themselves. He just stood there for a few moments, taking in the sight. This was going to take some getting used to. Just as he was starting to feel comfortable to the moving stairs, he noticed the pictures were moving as well. This place was definitely weird.
“So, this is your first time to Hogwarts?” It took him a couple of seconds to snap back into the real world, and realize that she was speaking to him. "Yeah, thats right. This is actually only my second time in the wizarding world, I went to Diagon Alley to buy my equipment, but apart from that no magic in my life before now at all. It's taking a bit of time to adjust." He had just managed to take his eyes off of the paintings, and smiled at her as he finished answering.

This was both very strange and very interesting to Amelia. Having lived in the Faerie palace she has known magic and wizards since her birth and cannot even begin to understand how strange it really could be. “Never?” it was not really a directed question for it was more of a shock as she had turned her face away embarrassed that she so randomly spoke. She was getting more at ease with Colin, although she was not too sure why.
“So, how did you find out about Hogwarts?” it was obvious he much have got a letter but after so long? The owl service was never that bad. She was interested, by her curious nature but did not want to be too forward either. She headed up the stairs, onto the next but it started to move before Colin had the chance to get on, this would make things a little long getting to the common Room but not too bad. Amelia fluttered her wings to meet him at the stairs he was on. “Well I guess we will have to take another route.” She said as she walked to the wall.
She had to remember, think about it really hard, to try and locate the right stone. She normally would not show someone new some of her secret places but she figured Colin would like to get to the Common room sometime this year. “Oh!” she exclaimed as she flew up off the floor about two feet and pressed her hand on a brick pushing gently. She moved to the side about three feet, and good thing she could fly because there was no floor or stairs at that point as she pressed a second stone. It must have looked very odd but she had not even though a thing about it as she returned to the floor.
“Okay, this will take us right up to the entrance portrait.” She said looking at the wall. She must have looked completely crazy as she did this funny act, but then she walked straight into the wall. She however did not hit it, as like at the train station platform 9 and three quarters it was a hidden stairwell leading up to the Ravenclaw tower. She had found it her third year as she was trying to find a good place to draw and fell through the wall.
She waited a few seconds for him to follow then walked back out, “You can wait for the stairs but there is no telling when they will be back.” She smiled, she was starting to enjoy herself a little bit.

“So, how did you find out about Hogwarts?” This struck Colin as a strange question, didn't everyone get sent letters? "I got a letter explaining all about it, isn't that how everyone finds out about it?" He replied, and moved to follow her up the stairs. As he got to the top of the stairs, they started moving. He would have attempted to jump onto the others, but it took all of his strength to stay standing.
When the stairs stopped moving, Amelia flew over to him. He watched as she opened the passage, and gave up trying to memorize the locations of the bricks, realizing that there was no way he could open it anyway. He was completely shocked as she walked through the wall, unsure of whether or not it would still be open. She stuck her head back out, said “You can wait for the stairs but there is no telling when they will be back.”, then disappeared again. He looked around quickly, took a deep breath, then walked through. "How did you know that was there?" He asked her, still slightly confused by the whole thing.

“Well, I live really close by, in the forest…” she stopped thinking about how in order to get home she had to enter the forbidden forest, it was not an uncommon thing for her, but would Colin know the infamous forest yet? She decided to continue with what she had started, “So I had known about it before my letter, but yea, all students get a letter, I think?” she scrunched her face as she wondered about what other way the school would send a message. Owl delivery seemed the best method.
“Well it took a while to find this part, it is easier at the Ravenclaw side of the passageway. But It was in my third year.” She stopped and giggled remembering it now how funny it was as she started to walk up the narrow staircase. Small torches had lit the way as the walked up the stairs, and went out after they had passed. “I had been drawing, and flew a little astray… Well I went right threw the wall. It gave me quite a scare at the time. Once I found where it lead I looked for the opening on that end, took me three weeks of time to figure it out, the portraits were laughing at me the entire time, until I figured it out.” That was the most she had spoken to someone new in her whole life. She almost did not realize she had even gone on and on as she had until she had finished and they were nearing the exit of the pathway.
It was another wall, but this one required no special sequence in order to get thru, it even opened with a hard scratching of the floor hitting the stone door. After she had walked out she stretched her wings out, they got tired from inactivity but she thought that it might be rude to fly while someone had to walk.
“Did you want to say the password? Since your new, you should get a first try at it.” She smiled hoping so hard that she did not sound so dumb, she remembered her first year she was dying to try out the password, she was also only eleven and Colin was much more mature then an eleven year old girl. Amelia stood where the entrance was, only a suite of armor stood there, one would need to know it was not only a portrait but also a door to really accept the wonder of it.

Colin followed closely behind Amelia, listening closely to her story. She seemed to have relaxed slightly, which was a good thing. It was always easier to make friends with people if the were relaxed around you, rather than nervous and tensed up. He hadn't realized how far they had walked, and was shocked when they emerged at the entrance, he hadn't realized they had gone that far at all.
“Did you want to say the password? Since your new, you should get a first try at it.” There was a password, he was now extra glad he had found a Ravenclaw to help him. "I don't actually know the password." He said, being honest, but dropping his voice slightly so that anyone around wouldn't think he was thick.

Amelia smiled, “Yea, something to protect the common rooms, Hogwarts is known to be the safest place.” She said and turned to the portrait. She had not even though that he would not know the password, but being new it was obvious he would not know. Then again she got that feeling as if he was not really a student, she would be letting in a complete strange.
She felt weird again, he was very kind and she had nothing to worry about right? The suit of armor bend down and said, “Password please” and Amelia knew she better speak up sooner rather then later. Continued here.... Ravenclaw Common Room
