They wandered somewhat aimlessly towards the castle, but not. Not wanting the evening to end meant that Jack had chosen a somewhat indirect route, via the long way home, and possibly round Hogwarts grounds if they had time.
They had passed many other people, most of who were 7th years headed to the Hogs Head or the Three Broomsticks. They eyed his and Cait's hands, which were still loosely linked, but for once no comments or judgement was passed.
'It is a nice night.' Despite the cold, but Jack wasn't about to say that.
But it was a nice night. The sky above them was still and twinkling with many stars. It almost mirrored how Jack felt this evening just very calm. That nothing else in the world was wrong, he'd almost forgotten about the mountains of parchment he'd left behind, most of which were due the end of the month.
The path was a little steep, and Jack made sure he kept in with Cait's step, it just made it a little easier for them both to walk. He was so busy concentrating on this he'd almost forgotten to be talking to her. It wasn't akward though. It just felt normal, like they didn't have to make conversation.
They came to a steep step . Jack went ahead and turned so that he could stand infront and give her a hand down if she needed it. He offered his hand up to her.

Caitlynn didn't even notice as they passed people in the streets, her eyes were either focused on the stars or casting side ways glances at Jack. The night was young and crisp, just the way she liked nighttime to be. It was comfortably silent between them as they walked down a steep hill, which she hardly noticed because of the steep hills and mountains in Oxbow she went hiking in with her parents.
She set a lazy, comfortably slow meandering pace, semi-aware that they were no longer near any buildings by the some what cooler air, but was not affected by it. It reminded her of nights in Oxbow during the summer, which one sat by the fire with a nice cup of tea and chatted about anything under the sun or just sat in silence.
Her thoughts were interrupted when they came to a particularly steep part of the path and Jack braved it first and held his hands to her. Though she didn't need the help, she smiled and took his hands anyway before carefully stepping down. She gestured wordlessly up to the half moon that was rising steadily in the sky amidst the twinkling stars. It was a beautiful sight.

She seemed quite happy with the silence. He remembered an old song his parents listened to when he was young, 'Enjoy the silence,' or something like that. Maybe this was what it meant. Jack pondered that thought for a while.
They came to a sharp fork in the road, right led to Hogwarts castle, and the left, a random path that also eventualy led Hogwarts. Most roads this way ended up at Hogwarts.
'Your call. Home or the scenic route home?' He realised how bizarre that sounded. Both ways looked appealing, long wimdy paths. But he knew that the one left would be more quiet, he didn't want her to think that he was suggesting anything... funny.
She wasn't like that though. And he knew that, but you could never be too careful.

Caitlynn hardly minded the silence, as she was content with gently holding hands with Jack and the scenery around them.
When they came to the fork in the road, she looked at the two paths thoughtfully, debating which path would be better at letting them spend more time together. Finally she shrugged as she pointed to the left path.
"The scenic route, if you please."
She smiled, rather excited to see more scenery. She had never known about the paths that stood before her, but she would remember them on her next meander.

Left it was then.
It was quie a pretty route, he was gad she'd picked this way. Less people - less looks. Always a plus. They path sloped down and round. It was strange why people didn't use this route. Granted it was more long winded, but the little littles looking down on them, and all the green that surrounded the path on which they were made it a pleasant evening.
He had almost been hoping that she would admit to being cold - after all it would have given him the opportunity to offer her his jacket. But honestly, he was colder than her!

Caitlynn looked around as they walked down the sloped path, the scenery and Jack were the only two things that had her undivided attention.
Unconsiously, she hummed Bach's Air For Advent, moving about lightly on her feet, causing a slight swaying motion. The piece she hummed suited the night around them and it seemed to make her glow.
She finally noticed what she was humming and smiled. The cold air dancing through her hair, she couldn't have been more content, save at home. The air would be much cooler there and would require her to wear a light jacket as she went about her meanders. This wouldn't require a jacket for at least a few more weeks.

He had a silent chuckle at her humming. She was so unaware and oblivious to... pretty much everything! It was almost beautiful the way she half moved in time to her humming and how she was so obviously not aware of her humming. He smiled. She caught him.
However he didn't go pink like he usually would. He just gave a half-embarrassed, half-knowing smile instead and they ontinued their walk.
He knew it wouldn't be long before they reached the castle. He knew it would be getting late and that they probably should head in. He just didn't want to.

Caitlynn noticed Hogwarts looming closer and closer as they walked. Subconsiously, she slowed her walk down to the slowest amble she could manage. The night was young, there was no homework beconing to her loudly from the common room, and she had great company. She could not ask for anything more.
Even with the slow pace, she knew that they would arrive at Hogwarts and have to part ways. She didn't want that to happen, but slowing down only stalled the inevitable.
She was already planning ways they might spend time together soon as she hummed Air For Advent, daning slightly swaying in time to the music. As Hogwarts loomed closer, she decided to break the silence. "So... we should do this again soon."

Jack felt her slow down. He slowed his pace in time with hers. He took one last good look at her, once again humming and swaying. He admired anyone with any musical talent, he couldn't hold a note and back home he had tried learning different instruments, but was unable to keep up with them when he returned to Hogwarts in term time.
He looked at her almost surprised that she was willingly wanting to spend tie with him. A pleassant surprise none the less.
'That sounds nice.' Nice sounded so lame. Why couldn't he have said something else? 'How about next time I take you somewhere slightly more exciting than a small cafe?'

Caitlynn smiled at his comments. "Sounds like a very adventurous day or evening." She replied, deep in thought. She wished everything could last forever, but they had to be inside before curfew at the very least.
Sighing, she picked up her pace a little. She didn't want either of them to get in trouble.
"I suppose you can slip me a note in the hallway or something like that." She said after a few minutes of silence. She watched Hogwarts loom closer, feeling a bit sad that the night was almost over.

Jack smiled at slipping her a note. He was hoping that he may run into her in the future at some point. Hopefuly not just a brief meeting in the hallway either.
'I'm sure that we'll find each other some how.' They came to a stop at the gates. It was bitter now, they probably should say goodbye quickly, and part. Time was somewhat against them. However he was still holding her hand and was finding the notion of letting it go a little difficult.
'Oh no, it appears our hands have froozen together,' he said with mock horror.

Caitlynn smiled slightly as she looked down at their entwined hands. "Let's go inside and get them thawed then." She replied in a deceivingly calm voice, when really it was taking a great deal not to burst out laughing.
Without another word, she led him inside the castle and the heat immediately hit them and they both felt like they were in a sauna.
"Rather hot in here isn't it?" She asked conversationally, rubbing his cold hands with her warm ones, glad she had tied up her hair or she'd really be uncomfortable right now. "Our hands will thaw out in no time."

He hated going from freezing cold to boiling hot - the sensation of burning hands was not a pleasant one, yet he knew if he had been given the choice he would not have been anywhere else this evening.
He agreed - hers felt altogether more alive already. He freed one of his hands and loosened his scarf a little.
'So.'
It was always a good starter. It was just thnking of the words that came after it that were a problem.

Caitlynn was glad that she had gotten out her summer night clothing, otherwise she would have been very miserable that night. Her thoughts were dragged away from her dorm room by Jack's voice. She smiled at the conversation starter and him kindly.
"So a needle pulling thread." She replied with a smile.
She didn't know if he had ever seen Sound of music, but it was worth a try. She loved the movie and was looking forward to watching it with her family when she went home for the summer.

He had taken a deep breath for what he was going to say next, not that he had formulated that in his mind. But the comment from Caitlynn somewhat took the wind out of his sails and he cracked up laughing.
'That was cheesier than a cheese feast pizza, with stuffed crust and extra mozarella.' It was, the comment and the film. Yet he was sort of glad that his Mum had made him watch the film - at least Caitlynn didn't think he was dim now.
He was sort of glad there was no-one around. It should be easier without people monitoring his every move. 'See you around then?'
